Japanese Garden Den Haag

by - October 26, 2017

This is not the ordinary place to visit when you visit Den Haag. The Japanese garden is a part of Clingendael Garden which has a lot of types of beautiful gardens. I took the time to visit it last Saturday with my flatmate, Eric.

The Japanese Garden was created in the beginning of the 20th century by the former owner of the country estate of Clingendael, Marguérite M. Baroness van Brienen (1871-1939), also called Lady Daisy. Lady Daisy undertook several voyages by ship to Japan. She brought back to the Netherlands a number of lanterns, a water cask, sculptures, the little bridges and possibly the pavilion. It is the only Japanese Garden in the Netherlands from around 1910 and therefore has a high historical value.  (source : Den Haag.nl )

The Japanese Garden is only opened once or twice a year, due to its fragile nature. I was very lucky to visit it when it was opened. There are a few Japanese features in the garden, making it feel very unique. The fallen and red leaves make the garden even looks more magnificent.
